Dr. M.K. Sudharshan
A Memoir

This is the remarkable story of Dr. MK Sudarshan who chose a career in community medicine at a time when others often shunned it. Starting in 1981 at the just started Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences [KIMS) at Bangalore he progressed from Lecturer to Professor and Head to Dean/Principal and Director in a span of over 34 years.  Beyond academia he gained international recognition for his pioneering work in rabies and was on the consultations and committees of World Health Organization, [WHO] Geneva, Switzerland.
During the Covid -19 pandemic in the state for over three years as Chairman of the State’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) he was key to its successful containment.
Dr. Sudarshan’s dedication earned him numerous accolades that include fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom and National Academy of Medical Sciences India State’s Rajyotasava award and an honorary doctorate from the Rajiv Gandhi University Health Sciences.
His journey is a compelling story of passion for public health and an inspiration for aspiring community medicine professionals
